Colors of 2011

December 10, 2010 § 8 Comments

The color for 2011 is Honey Suckle, a hot pink hue – The Energizing  color lift spirits and imparts confidence with life ongoing challenges – PantonePantone is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries.

What does this mean to you? You will see these colors dominating the  fashion, furnishings and the interior industry.

What do you think of the color? I think it is a vibrant color, spirit lifting hue that has that spicy tint of orange to it. I also added a hot orange swatch to the collage, bottom left of the swatch. The color is found in the flower called honeysuckle, top left of the swatch. Will have to wait and see how the designers get creative using  this color. Most people may claim it as a very  feminine hue, it sure does look like it but wait till you see some guys sporting it. I can imagine hot pink stilettos, accessories, accent chairs maybe, a tie, scarfs, wallpaper (This is interesting) etc…This color is now going to be stuck in my head, like a catchy song and I will keep looking out and post  pictures as I discover them while shopping, blog browsing and designing for 2011. Watch out!.

While it is easy to imagine this color in Fashion, I put together images that will make it easy for you to visualize it in environments other than the fashion industry,

Do you like the color?, Would love to hear some opinions…

Do I like the color? Hmmm….this question actually led to considerable introspection on my part. I am usually conflicted between using pink, given that I do love the whimsical innocence it evokes… and avoiding it, because of the stereotypical image it represents these days of a girly-girl. Eventually, when I heard someone say – what can be better than being feminine AND strong, it was like an ah-ha! moment for me. This particular shade of pink, I must say, I love! Maybe not for interiors, given that I tend to feel more comfortable in earthy, zen-like surroundings…makes me feel more connected to nature. But for accessories….and even clothes, this would be a FAB choice! I can totally piture myself buying a coat in this color – will add a nice touch of color to this beautiful white winter in Minnesota! Another reason I liked this particular shade is because it is more mature than baby pink, and yet less subdued than hot-pink. Its balanced perfectly between whimsy and elegance :-).

I agree, as a designer I totally feel this is a very challenging statement color for the very fact it being stereotyped as a feminine color. For 2011, it is an appropriate color because we all need that color an d uplift in our lives now…. I am putting together a collectiong of things, from fashion, furnisings and interiors and will update it soon.
Thank you for commenting, it means a lot to me.

I’m curious to see how it will be used in interiors! It can work its way into a cool, chic bedroom for ‘the single girl’ I guess :-). And a typo on my part, I meant ‘more’ subdued than hot pink in my comment Also, just curious to know, what was last year’s color???

  • greenurbanmotifs says:

Deepti last year’s color was Turquoise and everybody loved it. I think for 2008 – Yellow and 2007-Navy blue

  • Randi says:

I think I like this shade of pink – I too, only use (usually) earthy tones for interior paint. I am glad it is not turquoise – did not like last years’ choice. Clothing wise-I myself where a lot of black and think I like the idea of the pink as a camisole or scarf accessory.

Randi, I agree with you, the hot hue will be a great acccessory to have. I’ve seen some grat looking wall papers and furnishings in this color. It will be interesting to see the trend unfold.
